Tomorrow is Best Friends' Day. It's one of those little known (or little recognized) holidays that I think are valuable because they remind us to stop and enjoy the people in our lives just a little bit more on that one day.

We have days to recognize our families, but what about recognizing the families we choose for ourselves? That's what a best friend is - and that's what Best Friends' Day is for.
My Great-Aunt (a spry woman in her 80's) was telling our family just the other day how important it is to treasure and appreciate your friends as you get older, too, because they're often the people you turn to.

"I know about good friends and what they can do for us. I had two girl friends that were my support team and made what could have been a difficult thing all a fun time, yes, Fun time. Just kept me in good spirits and made light of concerns. There is nothing like having good friends."
So take this opportunity, this day, to thank your best friends. Whether you do it with a little "just because" gift, a heart-felt note in a card or a phone call to say "Thanks", you'll be so happy you did.
