Flower power! How nature inspires the painter of light

by Jacqueline

December 16, 2009

Today's post is from guest blogger Thomas Kinkade, painter of light, and the creator, with Teleflora, of the Thomas Kinkade Sleigh Ride Bouquet, one of our gorgeous Christmas flower arrangements.

Flowers bright up a day like nothing else. A beautiful arrangement is similar to a painting. Nature can surely create something to rival anything conceived by man. I’m an old-fashioned romantic, which is one reason why I paint in a “Romantic Realism” style. To this day, I still buy flowers regularly for my wife Nanette and my daughters. My favorite flowers range from lilies to roses to hydrangeas to just about anything. We love our holiday flowers and Christmas centerpieces every year.

Flowers make a statement that can’t be compared and my family always appreciates receiving them. I’ve always been a huge flower fan. I paint flowers in my paintings, including flowering trees and bushes, such as dogwood, redbud, magnolia, mimosa, lilacs and more. We also plant flowers in our yard, so that we can enjoy them nearly year-round. My studio is often filled with flowers—it just creates a more relaxing environment and helps inspire me as I paint.

During the holidays we decorate the entire house, with poinsettias, red roses and, of course, pine too. We always buy two or three Thomas Kinkade Christmas Bouquets for ourselves, and send several of them on to family members. One will most likely end up displayed prominently on the mantle in the family room this year, with another on the dining room table as well. Where will you put yours?

Thomas, I love your Christmas keepsakes and have three of them.  That said, I haven't been able to get them for the past couple of years because they have gotten way too expensive.  You should really consider lowering the price so that even more people can afford them.  Heck, it's not like you really need the money!

Merry Christmas.

Thanks for your comment, glad you liked the keepsakes. Like all small business owners, our florists are doing their best in a tough economy. Smile
